Sure sign of Spring

It’s finally here. The surest sign that spring has finally arrived at our farm.

It’s not the bright yellow dahlias.

Gaura Rosy Jane

Or the cheery Rosy Jane Gaura.

Or the chilly, snowy-breasted rooster.

It obviously isn’t the lawn chairs patiently waiting for warm nights and starry skies.

No. The surest sign of spring at The Quarter Circle S Ranch/Flower House Garden Center is when the frost boils start bursting through the ground.

And the flags go up and the parking lot is off-limits to all but foot traffic.

But as annoying as this is, the frost boils mean that the ground is warming. The days are getting longer. This snow will melt. And the ground will firm back up. I hope. 🙂

I’m taking a huge leap of faith and planting my dahlia bulbs in the ground tomorrow……hopefully they’ll survive next to the house if it decides to revert back to winter again.
