Crazy Days

All three rings of the circus are pretty active right now. Mark’s on a destructive binge, tearing down buildings, then burning the debris.

Kaitlin and I have been doing as much as we can to get ready for fall. Hoses disconnected, pots emptied, blah, blah, blah. Actually, she’s been doing most of the work, but someone has to tell her what to do! And Judy’s been working on spring 2012 plant orders.

This is the first year the miscanthus has been gorgeous.

Ring number three keeps getting louder and louder. We had an auction sale Monday, catered appetizers for a “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” event last week and we’re getting lots of dates for meetings, Christmas parties and bridge parties, of all things! This morning a local farmer called at 7:30 and asked if we could feed 25 for lunch today. For a usual restaurant (sort of ) this wouldn’t be a problem. However, we don’t usually do impromptu stuff, we had a scheduled lunch, clean up from yesterday’s sale and getting ready for a craft show this weekend. But we did it! Sirloin and shrimp for 28 complete with Garlic Mashed Potatoes, corn, baked beans. Did I mention that a semi with our annual load of soil for The Flower House Garden Center showed up this morning, too? But we got ‘er done. Judy made coffee for the bridge players, Kaitlin got the truck unloaded, I made lunch, Mark got back from a lease signing and he and Kaitlin loaded the grill and the food and took off to feed a hungry concrete crew. I fed the card-playing ladies, cleaned the the mess, then started on candy and cheesecakes for the craft show this weekend.

I really struggle with Almond Butter Crunch. It is one of our best sellers, but the butter often separates out. Both batches turned out perfectly today!

I guess sometimes the crazy days turn out alright! Let’s just hope tomorrow has fewer distractions!

You’ve been busy too! I wish I lived closer and I’d give you a hand… exchange for a bite of the Almond Butter Crunch and some advice on container plants for spring……let’s just skip winter 😉
