A tale of two cities

Today was the annual Minot Symphony League Secret Garden Tour. We at The Flower House Garden Center always make it a fun afternoon of enjoying other gardener’s hard work. There are so many cool ideas, plants and people to see in the 5 or 6 gardens featured each year. This year the event was postponed due to the flood, but I think they still came up with some wonderful yards to showcase.

This garden we have seen before, but I always enjoy Gladys’s creation. She makes it look sooooo easy!

But then, when we were done, we drove down 6th. It was like a totally different city. The flood smell is receding, but the devastation is not.

This home was about 15 blocks from the last one. You can see how high the water was by the brown on the tree. Across the street, there is a house that all that is left is studs. The siding and everything is off. It will be a long time before anyone there cares about gardening again. I hope that they are able to enjoy a friend or relative’s green grass and flowers until they can relax in their own yards again.
